Based on the configuration of the sealing surfaces, gate valves can be classified into wedge-type gate valves and parallel-type gate valves. Wedge-type gate valves are further subdivided into single-disc, double-disc, and elastic-disc types; parallel-type gate valves are subdivided into single-disc and double-disc types. Based on the position of the valve stem threads, they can be classified into rising-stem valves and non-rising-stem valves.
Working Principle:
The opening and closing component of a gate valve is the gate (or wedge), which moves perpendicularly to the direction of fluid flow. By rotating the handwheel, the valve stem is driven to rise or descend, thereby opening or closing the gate to cut off or allow the flow of media within the pipeline. Gate valves are designed to be either fully open or fully closed; they cannot be used for flow regulation or throttling purposes.
Performance Characteristics:
High Corrosion Resistance:Exhibits excellent chemical stability and can withstand a wide range of corrosive media, including strong acids, strong bases, and strong oxidizing agents.
Low Fluid Resistance:When the valve is fully open, the flow channel is linear, resulting in minimal pressure loss as the medium flows through. The direction of the medium flow is unrestricted, and there is no turbulence or significant pressure drop.
Excellent Sealing Performance:Capable of achieving a self-sealing effect through the application of medium pressure or external mechanical force. Some models also incorporate surface-seated or elastic sealing designs to ensure reliable sealing even under harsh operating conditions.
Labor-Saving Operation:Compared to certain other valve types, the opening and closing process requires significantly less physical effort. It can be equipped with various actuation methods—including manual, electric, and pneumatic drives—to facilitate more convenient operation.
Applications:Soft-sealed gate valves utilize the compensatory effect of slight elastic deformation in the gate (wedge) under pressure to achieve superior sealing performance. When in use, the working pressure of the medium should not exceed 1 MPa, and the temperature should not exceed 80°C. These valves are widely utilized across various industries—including construction, food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, and water supply/drainage systems—serving as shut-off or flow-isolation devices within pipelines and equipment.
